NEW YORK -- AOL Time Warner
Inc. announced that Barry Schuler will leave his post as chairman
and chief executive of the company's struggling America Online
division to head a new unit developing digital products and

its new Xbox (news - web sites) game console into a general
home device that handles everything from e-mail to video recording,
according to analysts who follow the company.
Prudential Securities analyst Hans Mosesmann released a report
Tuesday, stating that HomeStation, a multifunction consumer
appliance that has been the subject of rumor and speculation
for several months, is real and could dramatically change
the PC market.

Demand for new wireless products pushed sales of in-home networking
equipment up 97 percent in 2000, to $290 million, according
to market research firm Cahners In-Stat. Agere Systems' Orinoco
products earned a 37 percent share of wireless equipment sales,
while Proxim's Symphony products grabbed a 25 percent share.
Intel dominates the phone-line networking segment with 53
percent of all connections.
